Argentina Finishes Perfect Group Stage With 3-1 Win Over Jordan

Argentina closed out Group J with a 3-1 victory over Jordan on Saturday in Arlington, securing a perfect group stage record at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring with a first half free kick before Lautaro Martínez converted a penalty. Lionel Messi came off the bench to add a late free kick, while Mousa Al Tamari scored Jordan's lone goal in the second half.

Already assured of first place, Argentina rotated much of its starting lineup but still controlled the match. Lo Celso's opener and Martínez's penalty gave the defending champions a comfortable halftime advantage before Al Tamari briefly cut the deficit. Messi restored Argentina's two goal cushion with another trademark set piece, helping Lionel Scaloni's side finish the group with three wins from three matches.

Argentina advanced to the Round of 32, where it was scheduled to face Cabo Verde in Miami. Jordan, making its first FIFA World Cup appearance, finished its tournament after being eliminated from knockout contention during the group stage.
