The Chicago Bears opened the season with a record-setting 59-37 victory over the Carolina Panthers, as Caleb Williams threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns while adding two rushing scores.
D’Andre Swift rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, while Kyle Monangai added 100 rushing yards and a 61-yard touchdown. Carolina quarterback Bryce Young threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns, with Jalen Coker catching eight passes for 138 yards and two scores.
The 96 combined points made it the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history. Chicago led 31-31 early in the third quarter before pulling away with three consecutive touchdowns, including Monangai’s 61-yard run. The Bears also set a franchise record for points in a season opener, while the 59 points were the most Carolina has allowed in team history.
Chicago visits the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 on Sept. 20. Carolina travels to Atlanta to face the Falcons the same day.
