Boxing Stars in Los Angeles, June 9th: Léo Santa Cruz-Abner Mares & Jermell Charlo

It's lights, cameras and action-packed fights when boxing stars Léo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares & Jermell Charlo align in Los Angeles at Staples Center, June 9th, 2018.

PBC on Showtime, Ringstar Promotions and TGB Promotions, presents a high stakes fight card to sunny Southern California this summer. The announced bouts tell a story of fighters on the rise, with promise to create Hollywood highlights.

In the under-card, WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Jermell "Iron Man" Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) defends his world title against Austin "No Doubt" Trout.

Charlo will defend his WBC title for the third time after delivering two of the best knockouts of 2017, defeating Charles Hatley and Erickson Lubin. The Houston native has made Los Angeles his second home, training locally. Charlo attempts to put on another great performance under the bright lights and take his star power to the next level.

Jermell Charlo

Trout, a veteran in boxing, is coming off of a stoppage loss in 2017 to Jarrett "Swift" Hurd. When Trout challenges Charlo in June, it will be his third straight title shot - Jermall Charlo, Jarrett Hurd and Jermell Charlo. It's a match with career significance for Trout who looks to take advantage of a star opportunity.

In the main event, WBA Featherweight World Champion, Léo "El Terremoto" Santa Cruz (34-1-1, 19 KOs) will square off with Abner Mares (31-2-1, 15 KOs). Both Mexican-American fighters call Southern California home and have large fan bases that should make for a special night in LA at Staples Center.

Leo Santa Cruz Abner Mares

In 2015, Santa Cruz and Mares met for the first time in a thrilling bout. Santa Cruz was declared the winner by majority decision, leaving Mares hungry for a rematch.

Bragging rights for Los Angeles boxing are on the line when fight fans gather this summer to see Santa Cruz-Mares II and Charlo-Trout.
