The Atlanta Dream defeated the Minnesota Lynx 89-81 on Sunday in College Park, with Angel Reese making WNBA history in the process. Reese finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her 29th double-double of the season, breaking Alyssa Thomas’ previous single-season record of 28. Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Jordin Canada added 16 points and 10 assists. Minnesota was led by rookie Olivia Miles with 21 points, while Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier each scored 17.
Reese’s milestone came after an already historic month in which she set the WNBA single-game rebounding record with 26 rebounds against Los Angeles and broke the league’s single-season rebounding record. Atlanta improved to 26-14 with the victory, while Minnesota fell to 31-9 and had its eight-game road winning streak snapped. Rhyne Howard scored 16 points for Atlanta, including 12 in the fourth quarter.
“Great team effort, great way to go into the break,” Dream coach Karl Smesko said after Atlanta closed the regular season’s pre-World Cup portion with the win.
Both teams will now pause for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup break. Atlanta returns Thursday, Sept. 17, at home against the Connecticut Sun at 7:30 p.m. ET. Minnesota’s next game is Friday, Sept. 18, at home against the New York Liberty.
