LSU Tigers Crush Jacksonville 116-58 in historic NCAA March Madness Opener

The No. 2 seed LSU Tigers showed why they are one of the top teams in the country, rolling past the No. 15 seed Jacksonville Dolphins 116-58 in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
Flau'jae Johnson poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the way, while Mikaylah Williams added 18 points and 10 assists. LSU got off to a blistering start, opening the game on a 14-0 run and leading 34-14 after the first quarter in front of a fired-up home crowd at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The Tigers put on an offensive clinic all night long. They finished with 116 points, setting a new program record for an NCAA Tournament game, and tied an NCAA Tournament record by having seven players score in double figures. This dominant performance easily topped LSU's already nation-leading scoring average and has fans believing this team could be headed for another long March run under head coach Kim Mulkey.
This kind of showing adds another chapter to LSU women's basketball's impressive legacy. The program only began playing varsity basketball in 1975 and reached the AIAW National Championship game just two seasons later in 1977. The Tigers became a true powerhouse with five straight NCAA Final Four appearances from 2004 to 2008. In 2023, the Tigers finally broke through and won their first-ever national championship under Kim Mulkey.
With 31 NCAA Tournament appearances already on the resume, nights like this reinforce why LSU has established itself as one of the elite programs in women's college basketball.
