No. 8 LSU overcame a sloppy first half to beat Louisiana Tech 45-14 on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. Sam Leavitt threw for 344 yards and a touchdown while rushing for three scores, and Trey’Dez Green caught six passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Louisiana Tech quarterback Blake Baker threw for 128 yards and a touchdown, with Jalen Mickens adding six catches for 101 yards and the Bulldogs’ lone offensive touchdown.
LSU led only 10-7 at halftime after committing four turnovers, including three Leavitt interceptions. The Tigers settled down after the break, scoring 35 second-half points while the defense held Louisiana Tech to 140 total yards and recorded seven sacks. Princewill Umanmielen led the pass rush with three sacks, while TJ Dottery finished with a team-high nine tackles.
“It’s a big reality check for us,” Leavitt said after the game. “After a game like this, you can have a lot more focus to hone in on those little details and get to work.”
LSU improved to 2-0 and will travel to Oxford next Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. CT matchup with No. 9 Ole Miss. Louisiana Tech dropped to 1-1 and will return home next Saturday to face Baylor
