Garrett Nussmeier, Moore Earn SEC Weekly Honors After LSU's Upset Win Over No. 4 Clemson
BATON ROUGE, La. — Following LSU’s gritty 17-10 road victory over No. 4 Clemson on Saturday, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and center Braelin Moore were recognized on Monday with SEC Player of the Week honors for their standout performances.
Nussmeier was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, marking the third time in his career he's earned the accolade. Moore, making his LSU debut after transferring from Virginia Tech, was honored as the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Nussmeier was instrumental in the Tigers’ second-half comeback. He finished the game completing 28-of-38 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown, including the go ahead touchdown pass to tight end Trey’Dez Green.
Nussmeier completed his final 11 passes of the game, including a perfect 9-for-9 showing in the fourth quarter. The win marked just the fifth time in program history that LSU has beaten a Top-4 ranked opponent on the road.
While Nussmeier provided the spark, Moore anchored an offensive line that rose to the occasion against Clemson’s vaunted defensive front. Playing all 70 offensive snaps, Moore helped hold the Tigers to just one sack — a remarkable feat considering LSU lost four offensive line starters to the NFL Draft this past spring.
Moore’s impact went beyond pass protection. LSU’s retooled offensive line paved the way for 354 total yards and 25 first downs, allowing the offense to dominate time of possession. The Tigers held the ball for 37 minutes, including a commanding 21-minute stretch in the second half when they shut out Clemson 14-0.
Moore's performance was even more impressive considering it was his first outing in purple and gold. His leadership and steady presence helped stabilize a completely new starting line, with five different faces from LSU’s regular-season finale last year.
With Saturday’s win, LSU not only climbs in the national conversation but does so behind emerging stars like Nussmeier and Moore, who are quickly proving they can lead this team through one of the SEC’s toughest schedules.
