Patrick Mahomes Suffers Knee Injury Late as Chiefs’ Season Takes Another Hit
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes exited Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a left knee injury late in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs’ 16–13 loss on December 14, 2025.

Mahomes was injured while scrambling near the sideline when his left leg bent awkwardly under contact, forcing him to the ground and out of the game with under two minutes remaining. He was helped off the field and did not return, with backup Gardner Minshew finishing the contest. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed after the game that Mahomes would undergo further evaluation, including an MRI, to determine the severity of the injury.
Before leaving the game, Mahomes completed 16 of 28 passes for 189 yards and an interception, while also adding a rushing touchdown. The loss dropped Kansas City to 6–8 on the season and officially eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention, snapping a postseason streak that dated back to 2015. Mahomes’ injury adds another layer of uncertainty for Kansas City as the team closes out the 2025 season and awaits clarity on the status of its franchise quarterback moving forward.
