NFL Weekend Roundup: Ravens Roll, Bengals Stay Perfect

The Baltimore Ravens delivered the weekend’s most dominant performance, finishing the preseason unbeaten with a 41-3 rout of the Washington Commanders. Tyler Huntley threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Chris Moore, while rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano completed 17 of 24 passes for 145 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Baltimore’s defense held Washington to 190 total yards and just one field goal.

The Cincinnati Bengals also finished 3-0 after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 30-13, with Josh Johnson throwing for 156 yards and the Bengals pulling away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Green Bay quarterback Kyle McCord turned in another strong performance, throwing four touchdown passes in a 42-38 victory over Arizona. Denver also made a statement with a 34-6 win over Minnesota as Sam Ehlinger threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns.

The weekend’s biggest individual breakout came in Chicago, where rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas opened his preseason debut with a 97-yard touchdown catch from Tyson Bagent on the Bears’ first offensive play. Thomas finished with five catches for 140 yards and also contributed 39 punt-return yards, while Bagent completed 16 of 17 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns in Chicago’s 24-15 win over Tennessee. Thomas reached 21.99 mph on the touchdown, according to Next Gen Stats.

The preseason ended Sunday with the league’s annual roster crunch as all 32 teams had to reduce their rosters to 53 players by 6 p.m. ET. Among the notable moves, the Bears released former first-round pick Marcus Davenport, Houston released veteran receivers Sterling Shepard and Zay Jones, and Cincinnati released veteran quarterback Josh Johnson despite his strong preseason finale. The NFL now shifts fully toward Week 1, with roster moves and waiver claims shaping the final rosters before the regular season begins.
