MINNEAPOLIS — Breanna Stewart delivered a dominant playoff performance Sunday as the No. 8 seed New York Liberty defeated the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx 91-75 in Game 1 of their WNBA first-round series. New York now leads the best-of-three series 1-0.
Stewart finished with 34 points and 12 rebounds, adding six assists, two steals and two blocks while shooting 11-for-18 from the field. The two-time WNBA MVP came within two points of the Liberty's franchise record for points in a playoff game.
Minnesota struggled to contain New York after halftime, while rookie Olivia Miles had 11 points on 3-for-12 shooting in her postseason debut. Nia Brodie led the Lynx with 16 points, and both Napheesa Collier and Natasha Howard fouled out.
The Liberty can eliminate Minnesota with a Game 2 victory Tuesday in New York. If the Lynx win Game 2, the series returns to Minneapolis for a deciding Game 3 Thursday.
