No. 8 Ole Miss defeated No. 7 LSU 32-24 on Saturday night in Oxford, overcoming a second-half comeback to win the Magnolia Bowl. Trinidad Chambliss completed 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns, while Traylon Ray caught seven passes for 115 yards and a score. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt accounted for 158 passing yards and a rushing touchdown, while Dilin Jones rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Ole Miss built a 24-7 halftime lead before LSU scored 17 unanswered points to tie the game at 24 early in the fourth quarter. Chambliss answered with a 14-yard touchdown run on a 13-play, 75-yard drive, and the Rebels converted the ensuing two-point attempt to take a 32-24 lead. LSU reached the Ole Miss 6-yard line with just over a minute remaining, but Jaylon Braxton intercepted a tipped pass to seal the victory.
The victory extended Ole Miss' home winning streak to 14 games and set a new attendance record at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with 70,033 fans. “It took all of us tonight,” Ole Miss coach Pete Golding said after the game. “A lot of guys stepped up and played really well.”
Ole Miss, now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play, travels to face Florida next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. LSU falls to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play and returns to Tiger Stadium next Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. CT matchup with Texas A&M.
