Spencer Rattler emerges as New Orleans Saints starting quarterback

For the second day in a row, Spencer Rattler took most of the first-team snaps at New Orleans Saints practice — the clearest sign yet of a potential shift in the team’s quarterback competition.
While the contest remains open — rookie Tyler Shough did take some starter reps late in the session — Rattler’s back-to-back lead roles suggest he’s currently out in front.
The change began Sunday, when Rattler stepped in for morning reps originally slated for Jake Haener. It continued Tuesday after a team day off, breaking from the earlier rotation pattern where each quarterback led on alternate days.
“He’s doing a nice job,” head coach Kellen Moore said regarding Rattler. “He’s making good decisions, protecting the ball well, and showing some mobility — he’s escaped pressure a few times, which is great to see.”
Moore emphasized that the quarterback battle remains a day-to-day evaluation, and no starter has been named for Sunday’s preseason matchup with the Chargers. Still, Rattler seems to have gained the upper hand after another solid showing.
