Vasyl Lomachenko Makes Boxing World Title History, TKOs Linares in RD10
Vasyl "Hi-Tech" Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KO), Ukraine, got off the canvas in the sixth round to win the WBA Lightweight Championship, defeating Jorge Linares (44-4, 27 KO). The two time Olympic Gold Medalist becomes the fastest three division World Champion in Boxing history.
Jorge Linares stunned Lomachenko with a straight right hand that sent him to the canvas. Lomachenko bounced back up and proceeded to work back into a fight that could've been scored either way. Linares was visibly the stronger and bigger fighter.
Vasyl Lomachenko climbing up to Lightweight gave proof of his Pound-for-Pound supremacy and status. Keith Idec tweeted that Linares was allegedly 14 pounds heavier than Lomachenko. Loma often worked his way inside, feinting, using quick short combinations that Linares could not avoid.
In the tenth round, Lomachenko set Linares up for a perfect liver shot that stopped the former champ. According to Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum, Lomachenko will fight August 25th in LA. Reports suggest he will face Ray Beltran in a WBA-WBO Lightweight Unification.
