The Minnesota Lynx closed the game on an 11-3 run Thursday night, to beat the Dallas Wings on the road, 90-86. Natasha Howard finished with 26 points, while Courtney Williams added 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting for Minnesota. Paige Bueckers led Dallas with 27 points and eight assists, and Maddy Siegrist scored 17 points in the first half as the Wings carried a lead into the fourth quarter.
Dallas led by eight at halftime and still held control late in the third quarter before Minnesota repeatedly attacked the paint down the stretch. Howard scored the tiebreaking basket with 51 seconds remaining, and the Lynx capitalized on Dallas defensive breakdowns in pick n' roll coverage during the closing possessions. Minnesota improved to 2-1 despite playing without Napheesa Collier.
“They got everything they wanted,” Wings coach Jose Fernandez said afterward. “When things are not going well for you offensively, you’ve got to play a lot harder on the defensive end.”
Minnesota returns home to face the Chicago Sky on Sunday at Target Center. Dallas continues at home Monday against the Washington Mystics before heading to Chicago later next week.
