The No. 9 LSU women's basketball team opened its 2026–27 season in dominant fashion, overwhelming Southeastern Louisiana 129–35 on November 2 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Tigers wasted no time establishing control, scoring 37 points in the first quarter and carrying a commanding 69–9 advantage into halftime. LSU continued its offensive assault throughout the second half, adding another 60 points to finish with one of the most lopsided victories in program history.
ZaKiyah Johnson delivered the performance of the night, recording a career-high 33 points and 13 rebounds. The sophomore shot an incredible 14-of-19 from the field, including nine offensive rebounds, while adding three assists and five steals. Johnson's performance demonstrated her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor and gave LSU an early-season star performance. MiLaysia Fulwiley contributed 20 points, while Mikaylah Williams added 19 points and Grace Knox finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
LSU's dominance extended well beyond its leading scorers. The Tigers shot 55.8% from the field, knocked down 10 three-pointers and recorded 31 assists. Defensively, LSU forced 38 turnovers and collected 24 steals, turning those mistakes into 48 points. The Tigers also controlled the glass, finishing with 57 total rebounds and 45 second-chance points. LSU's pressure defense and transition offense made it nearly impossible for Southeastern Louisiana to establish any rhythm.
The victory gives LSU an impressive start to a season filled with expectations under head coach Kim Mulkey. Johnson's breakout performance, Fulwiley's scoring ability and the team's overall offensive production provide plenty of reasons for optimism. LSU will now turn its attention to Texas Southern on November 5 as the Tigers look to build on their season-opening statement. If Monday night's performance is any indication, LSU has the offensive firepower to become a serious problem for opponents across the country.
